Friday 7/16 Tasting: Argentina

This Friday in the Tasting Rom, we will be starting off the 4th of July weekend with a fantastic evening filled with Cabernet wines from around the world.  That's right, it's time again for the World Cab Challenge!
Literally every major wine-producing nation makes Cabernet and with good reason.  Its dark colors, bold flavors and intense structure produce some of the greatest wines in the world.  Cab popularity is second to none and we will show you why this week.
We start the line-up with one of the best values in Napa Cab we have in the store, Sean Minor.  From there, we head up to Washington for a smokin' Cab Franc blend from Revelry that is simply delicious.  Next, we head south, WAY south, to Argentina for a Cab that will knock you out with its combination of depth and modest price.
Then we sail across the sea to Italy for a Super-Tuscan that is just that....super!  We finish up with two killer Cabs from Napa Valley.  First, the Jericho Canyon Creek Block that is a new favorite and finally the Spring Mountain Cabernet that really shows all of the old school elegance and power that made Napa the top spot for Cab in the USA.
This Friday will be all about purple teeth and purple smiles!  We are really excited to share this great line-up with you so some on in and start your holiday weekend off right.  We can't wait to see you here!

We will be pouring 6 wines on the 2nd:

1.   2007     Sean Minor Cabernet, Napa Valley
2.   2007     Revelry The Reveler, Washington
3.   2007     Pannunzio Cabernet, Argentina
4.   2006     Poggio al Tesoro Sondraia, Italy
5.   2006     Jericho Canyon Creek Block Cabernet, Napa Valley
6.   2006     Spring Mountain Cabernet, Napa Valley

2007 Sean Minor Cabernet, Napa Valley: Supple, graceful, complex and harmonious, this is firm and taut, with spicy plum, currant, cedar and mineral notes. www.winespectator.com

2007 Revelry The Reveler, Washington:  55% cab franc, 40% Merlot, 5% cabernet, this is a rich and very dark fruited blend.  Dark color, ripe blackberries tinged with mineral, smoke and a thread of red cassis through the middle that makes this wine focused and incredibly layered.  Lovely toast frames the wine and adds depth.  Delicious! -Dave

2007 Pannunzio Cabernet, Argentina:  Ripe and lush character bursting with jammy berry fruit, vanilla and hints of chocolate.  Fresh and intense, this is an amazingly great value in cabernet.  Very broad and soft on the palate, this is a cab that you can sink right into for a song. -Dave

2006 Poggio al Tesoro Sondraia, Italy: This red is a blend of 65% cabernet, 25% merlot and 10% cab franc grown in two small vineyards in Bolgheri.  This wine is velvet textured and really polished, with amazingly fine grained tannin and incredible length and complexity.  The fruit is wonderful ripe blackberry, plum and cassis wrapped in layers of anise, dark chocolate and hints of smoke and fresh cut herb and tobacco leaf.  This has power and elegance and really stands up well with great wines from Bordeaux and Napa.

2006 Jericho Canyon Creek Block Cabernet, Napa Valley:  This is an amazingly elegant Napa Cabernet.  Rich and very tightly knit, it is really starting to come into its own and it is drinking nicely now and will do so for years!!  Rich and chewy with tons of ripe tannin wrapped around juicy and rich berry fruit, cassis and toast.  Big and full in the mouth, this is a “steak-cab” all the way.  This is serious stuff! -Dave

2006 Spring Mountain Cabernet, Napa Valley: This 2006 is killer cabernet, with all of the elegance and refined structure that Spring Mountain lends to cabernet.  This wine has beautiful red fruits, currants and cherries mixed with darker blackberry notes and hints of mocha and leather and smoke.  This wine is balanced and juicy with a muscular but very fine-grained backbone of tannin.  The wine is great now but will age for a decade with no problem. -Dave
