2004 Mont Perat, Grand Vins de Bordeaux: Fruity, with blackberry and mineral aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fresh finish. www.winepsectator.com 2006 Petit Manou, Medoc (2nd wine of Clos Manou): This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10 % Petit Verdot is almost New Worldish by virtue of its flamboyant display of blueberries, blackberries, espresso, minerals and subtle new oak. A creamy texture, a fleshy, full-bodied palate, and surprising purity as well as intensity suggest this beauty should drink well for a decade. www.wineexchange.com 2006 Leoville Barton, St Julien Grand Cru Classe: Not surprisingly, this wine is closed, masculine, but super-rich, with a denser, more complete and full-bodied style than its sibling, Langoa Barton. Some toasty vanillin is apparent in the black currant aromas intermixed with tobacco leaf, cedar, and spice box. The wine is full-bodied and has a boatload of tannin, not unusual for this estate, as well as an impressively pure, long finish. Everything is here, but this wine, made with uncompromising vision, is meant to be cellared for an exceptionally long period of time. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. 91pts RP www.erobertparker.com 2006 Malescot St Exupery, Margaux Grand Cru Classe: While it is easy to lose sight of this wine, given the prodigious 2005 that was produced, this is another outstanding effort from an estate that has been doing everything right for some time. Notes of graphite, black currant liqueur, incense, and camphor make for a complex and intensely penetrating set of aromatics. Dark ruby/purple, medium to full-bodied, with superb concentration and moderate tannin, this is a beauty of finesse and substance that should be at its best between 2012 and 2024. 91pts RP www.erobertparker.com 2006 Lynch Bages, Margaux Grand Cru Classe: 1988 or 1995-ish in style, rather than 1996, which seems to be the vintage several 2006s recall, this dense purple-colored wine displays sweet notes of creme de cassis, tobacco leaf, licorice, and some cedar and graphite. The wine has plenty of structure a la 1995 and a backward, muscular personality, but beautiful fruit on the attack and alluring purity and a nicely textured mouthfeel. The finish suggests cellaring for 3-5 years and drinking over the following two decades. 92pts RP www.erobertparker.com 2006 Kirwan, Margaux Grand Cru Classe: A virile, muscular-styled effort with high tannin, the 2006 Kirwan exhibits notes of crushed rocks, roasted herbs, black cherries, and currants. Although slightly tough-textured, it possesses impressive depth and richness. If some of the disjointedness and rustic edges become sweeter and better integrated, this wine will merit an outstanding score. It is a big, full-bodied style of Margaux living on the edge of roughness. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023+?. 91pts RP www.erobertparker.com |
